Proclaiming June 2021 as National Homeownership Month WHEREAS, homeownership changes lives and enhances futures; and WHEREAS, homeownership strengthens communities economically and culturally, and encourages residents to be more active and invested in their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, homeownership matters because equity buildup through owning a home is an excellent long-term investment, and tax incentives through mortgage interest and real estate property tax deductions are critical financial benefits; and
WHEREAS, in June 1934, President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the National Housing Act, which made homeownership available to millions of families who previously could not have afforded to buy their own homes; and WHEREAS, National Homeownership Month provides an opportunity for all in the housing industry to work together to provide families with the tools and information they need to overcome barriers to homeownership and assist in keeping homeowners in their homes.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LOURDES A. LEON GUERRERO, Maga’hågan Guåhan, Governor of Guam, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Organic Act of Guam, as amended, do hereby proclaim June 2021 as National Homeownership Month. Homeownership does not have to be a dream but can be a reality when the government and private sector, especially the buyers and sellers who make up the nation’s 1.3 million REALTORS®, work together to champion and protect homeownership and help make it more affordable, attainable, and sustainable.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, JOSHUA F. TENORIO, Sigundo Maga’låhen Guåhan, Lieutenant Governor of Guam, hereby, together with the Maga’håga, cause the Great Seal of Guam to be affixed in the City of Hagåtña, on this Eighteenth day of June in the Year of our Lord, Anno Domini, Two Thousand and Twenty-One.
